I am a teaching professional who believes in having strong, supportive, knowledgeable teachers who can create high-interest lessons using twenty-first-century skills. I have designed, implemented, and assessed students’ abilities to communicate, collaborate, be creative, and think critically to develop viable solutions to real-world problems. In this post-COVID world, there have been many challenges along the way in creating a middle-school STEM course that is relevant and meaningful to students. As such, I developed a program in which I would want my daughters to experience so they develop problem-solving skills. Each day I focus on three factors: (1) the use of the design process, (2) the intentional use and reflection of 21st-century skills, and (3) real-world applications of the learning within each lesson. Using the design process I am able to create an engaging, relevant, and research-based curriculum where students thrive.
